Since opening in 1995, One Heart Stables has been utilized by the youth served in the Children’s Residential Center at CCHO. These children have experienced extreme abuse and neglect, and that trauma often makes it difficult for them to connect with others or even deal with the demands of everyday life. One Heart Stables therapy horses give CCHO residents a chance to engage in an honest, non-judgmental relationship, and the skills learned in developing a relationship with a horse then can be easily translated to developing relationships with people. With each therapeutic session, we strive for our clients to gain self-confidence, improve their mental and physical capabilities, and engage in social relationships with staff and volunteers.
